Working with an architect is more than just ordering slabs from a catalog. It involves bringing a specific project to life in natural stone, in accordance with the documentation, tolerances, and the architect’s vision. Custom-made granite refers to an element crafted according to an individual workshop drawing: precise dimensions, thickness, edge profile, surface finish, and installation method. Each slab has its own place in the project and its own number on the cut list.

Świat z Granitu is a Polish, family-owned stoneworking company that has been in business since 1988 and is now run by two generations. We operate out of our own facility in Reptowo near Szczecin (Kobylanka municipality, West Pomeranian Voivodeship), equipped with a full range of machinery. This allows the designer to communicate directly with the manufacturer, rather than through an intermediary, which shortens the decision-making process and provides real influence over the details.

Construction Based on the Architect's Documentation: From File to Detail

We begin the project with the documentation. We accept drawings in DWG, DXF, and PDF formats, as well as parts lists and detail drawings. Based on these, we create a workshop drawing and a layout plan—that is, a plan for arranging individual elements on a block of material, taking into account the design and the grain direction of the stone. This is the stage at which we identify any potential dimensional conflicts before they reach production.

We determine tolerances, edge bevels, panel joining methods, joint widths, and substructure details. With granite, precision matters: for CNC-machined elements, realistically achievable tolerances are measured in millimeters, which allows for continuous lines and even joints across large surfaces. For the architect, this means a predictable final result that matches the visualization.

We also select materials based on specific applications. Different parameters are important for a ventilated facade, for the flooring of a prominent square, and for interior cladding. We advise on slab thickness, finish type, and granite variety, taking into account loads, exposure to weather conditions, and slip-resistance requirements. We confirm all specifications with a sample and a color swatch before production begins.

CNC Machinery and Non-Standard Dimensions

One of the strengths of our Reptowo facility is our own comprehensive machine tool fleet. We have CNC machine tools, splitting machines, polishing machines, and a flame-treatment station. Having the entire manufacturing process in one location means we do not outsource any stages: we maintain control over the quality, delivery time, and consistency of every component, from blanks to complex parts.

CNC machining allows for the creation of shapes that cannot be replicated by hand with such precision: cutouts for utilities and drains, holes for facade anchors, profiled edges, curves, bevels, recesses, engravings, and lettering. This opens the door to producing non-standard, custom dimensions and elements designed specifically for a single building.

We process granite in the full range of thicknesses used in architecture, from thinner cladding to massive floor slabs and blocks for street furniture. For surfaces requiring slip resistance, we apply a textured finish, and for exposed details, we provide polishing and precision beveling. Production is fully tailored to the project, not the other way around.

Granite Surface Finishes: A Technical Guide for Designers

The surface finish determines both the aesthetics and the functionality. At our facility, we offer a full range of finishes, allowing designers to consciously choose a texture that suits the location and intended use. This is often a more important decision than the color of the stone itself.

Polishing gives the surface a deep luster and brings out the granite’s natural pattern and color to the fullest; it works well for interior cladding and countertops. Grinding produces a smooth, matte surface with a subdued appearance. Brushing creates a satin-like, slightly antiqued texture that is pleasant to the touch and offers better traction than a polished finish.

Flaming is a high-temperature surface treatment that causes the top layer of the stone to chip away, creating a rough, highly slip-resistant texture: it is a classic finish for outdoor stairs and floors. Peppering creates a regular, dotted texture. Sandblasting produces a uniform matte finish and is used for lettering. Splitting leaves the natural split surface of the stone, which is popular for use on facades and retaining walls. Textured surfaces can be selected to meet the slip resistance requirements for walkways.

Swedish Granite in Design Projects: Colors and Applications

We specialize in Swedish granite, prized for its uniformity, durability, and distinctive, elegant colors. This stone has very low water absorption and high frost resistance; it is resistant to abrasion and weather conditions, making it a material that will last for decades, even in the climate of the West Pomeranian coast.

Our regular lineup includes, among others: Vanga in shades of red, Bohus in gray and brown varieties, light Bjärlöv Champagne, Gneis Halmstadt, dark Black Swedish (Moheda), and gray Tranås. This wide range of colors—from deep black, through champagne-colored beiges and grays, to reds—allows the stone to be matched to the material palette of the entire building.

We select varieties based on their intended use and exposure. Dark granites look striking on polished facades and architectural details, while light and gray varieties work well on expansive floors and plazas, where the consistency of large surfaces is key. For every project, we provide samples from a specific batch of material, because granite is a natural stone, and approval of the color swatch before production is a standard part of our collaboration.

Major projects: facades, plazas, columbaria, and street furniture

We build structures that require the coordination of hundreds of components. For ventilated facades, we supply panels prepared for anchoring systems, with holes and notches CNC-machined according to the substructure design. We number the components according to the cut list and assembly drawing, which streamlines the construction crew’s work and minimizes the risk of errors.

In city squares, courtyards, and pedestrian walkways, granite proves to be a durable material that withstands heavy foot traffic. We select the appropriate thicknesses and anti-slip finishes, and design the layout of the slabs, curbs, steps, and drainage elements. For the investor, this is an investment in a surface that does not require frequent replacement.

We also create columbaria and elements of religious and cemetery architecture. These projects combine technically demanding craftsmanship with the need to respect the spirit and solemnity of the site, which is why we carry them out with the appropriate respect and attention to detail. Our offerings are complemented by small-scale architectural elements: planters, benches, cladding, and flooring in representative spaces, where premium materials enhance the prestige of the facility.

The first step is the inquiry and documentation. All we need are drawings, a list of components, or a design concept, based on which we propose materials, finishes, and technical solutions. Next, we prepare a quote and, once the general direction is approved, provide samples and swatches for your approval. We do not quote prices from a catalog without consultation, as we calculate each project individually based on its specific characteristics.

Once approved, we create the workshop drawings and cut lists, and then begin production using our own machinery. Every stage—cutting, CNC machining, texturing, and polishing—undergoes quality control at our facility. We label the components and pack them for transport in the order they will be installed to ensure that work on the construction site proceeds smoothly.
